2026 Ford Yacht Club Boat of the Year Qualifications
BOTY calculations were updated to a new system for 2026 per the Race Committee meeting in June of that year. The new system is to encourage more racing and qualify more boats.
FYC BOTY is open to all FYC members in good standing that have met the rules listed below:
- All races are counted towards 1 boat, not 1 skipper. If you race multiple boats, there will be multiple entries.
- You must race the majority of your races in either PHRF Spinnaker class or PHRF Jib and Main.
- Exceptions allowed:
- Your regular class is not available, in that case you will get an automatic 1st place for racing in the alternate of your normal class (Example: you signed up for JAM, and no other boats signed up. The RC tells you that you must race Spinnaker Class. You will be scored for a 1st place in JAM even though you raced in Spinnaker class.)
- You are allowed 2 exceptions during the season to sail the alternate class for any reason, thus you may sail in the alternate of your normal class 2 times (Example: You normally sail Spinnaker class, but you are short crew. You may still race in JAM and use the points towards BOTY.)
- Points will be awarded as follows:
- 1st place in class = 4 points
- 2nd place in class = 3 points
- 3rd place in class = 2 points
- Finish a race = 1 point
- Started, but DNF = 0.5 points
- First overall in a fleet of more than 15 boats = 1 bonus point
- First overall in your WSSC WNATR class for all 3 series = 4 bonus points
- A RRS rule 2 violation in any race during the year may disqualify you from qualification for BOTY.
- FYC will do its best to keep the scoring updated as the year progresses. Any wrong, missing scores, or other issues must be submitted by email to the FYC RC by October 1st.
- If races from outside the area are to be counted, results must be submitted within 10 days from the finish to the race committee, or October 1st. Whichever is earlier. Submit results via email to fycraces@gmail.com
- To receive full points, races must include:
- Total number of boats racing, Total number of boats racing in your class, Your finish place in your class, & Your finish place overall.
- There will not be a tie breaking procedure for this new method and the award can be shared in a given year.
- You must complete at least 3 FYC races.
