2026 Ford Yacht Club Boat of the Year Qualifications

The purpose of Boat of the Year is to determine the best racing yacht for a given year at Ford Yacht Club.
FYC BOTY is open to all FYC members in good standing that have started at least 6 of the races listed in the attachment. If no two yachts have completed 6 races in a given year, the number of races may reduce by 1 until at least two yachts qualify to create a fair competition.
Rules:
- The system will use low point scoring and only count FYC yachts racing in either Spinnaker or JAM classes. This will adjust a yachts finish place to how it did amongst other FYC boats racing and not the entire fleet. 1st place will receive 1 point, 2nd place will receive 2 points, etc.
- Classes in which you may compete include PHRF Spinnaker OR PHRF Jib and Main (JAM). A RRS rule 2 violation in any race during the year may disqualify you from qualification for BOTY.
- Spinnaker races may only count towards Spinnaker boat of the year, and JAM races may only count towards JAM boat of the year. No exceptions.
- Lowest point totals after 6 races will win Boat of the Year.
- If no two yachts have completed 6 races in a given year, the number of races may reduce by 1 until at least two yachts qualify to create a competition.
- "Overalls" will be used when FYC boats are split into multiple spinnaker or JAM classes.
- If no other FYC boats are in an event, you must score in the top 3 of all boats to receive 1 point. A finish of 4+ will receive 2 points.
- Your BOTY calculations also must include at least 2 races from FYC, 1 race from GIYC, and 1 race from WSSC. If you did not start a race with one of those clubs, you may take a DNS scoring if necessary with that is equal to the number of FYC boats finishing for that event +1. Selected races have been agreed to with our partner clubs in agreements to try and encourage participation in larger events.
- There will not be a tie breaking procedure, and the award can be shared in a given year.
